being serious day 1 blog:

was going to spend the day at the library to better simulate a focus environment but my mom had some exams to do that required general anesthesia and had to have someone pick her up after, so i stayed home to both take her and pick her up

headache started brewing

spent all morning and most of the afternoon cleaning the house with her

while she was there i came back home and finally analyzed/ opened up my portefolio to update it. turns out it needs less work than i expected it to. reworked the cover & back bc i dont want my face in there, also removed some projects i dont think are relevant to the type of design i wanna do (theyre on behance regardless)

this was roughly 2-3 hours of work though and my headache got worse. saw that it was close to the time to pick up my mom so i went to rest my head for a bit

pick up mom, back home. go get something to eat with her bc she hungry due to having to clean her guts for it = chicken soup, jello and pills for like 4 days

has an inflamed stomach and a mass inbetween stomach and. i forgot the name. they took part of it for a hospital biopsy that can analyze it more thorough. awaiting results

Please don't split chapter 10 long chapters are the best 😭 I'm not saying this to pressure you or anything but I've seen many authors that genuinely think people will get bored if the chapter is over 20k words or get lazy to read it which is sad cuz i really love long chapters but you're free to do whatever u want cuz editing 30k words takes time and you're doing that for free

i think my issue is that, as a writer that also spends a lot of time being a reader, i worry scenes that i’ve spent a lot of time crafting will get lost in the grand scheme of the chapter, and i won’t get to have a chance to interact w readers about those specific scenes that still mean a lot within my story bc it’s likely that the last scene will be interacted w the most due to recency bias (i’ve experienced this as a reader, so i think as a writer i’m more weary of it as well)

ch10 is split into three major scenes, one of which happens on campus, one of which happens at a frat house party, and another of which happens at one of the soccer games. since each of these scenes are around 10k words each, and i think contribute to the story in their own ways, i think i’d like for them to stand alone n kinda breathe a bit as their own events

i hope that makes sense? i really had no issues previously to post a 22k chapter, but 30k+ is just… a little too much for me to post in one go, and not necessarily out of fear that readers wouldn’t read it, but for the reasons stated above

but anyway, i’m thinking of posting each part maybe the day after the other, like MWF type thing or something, so it’s not like there will be huge breaks inbetween

Get to know you- Sims Style

I have been tagged by @niamh-sims. I play TS2 for the most part. VERY rarely, I create a sim in TS1, play a little, get bored quickly. But I have fond childhood memories of playing TS1 with my friends. I very briefly played TS3, but my PC was not able to handle it, when it came out and I was just not into it. I don't play TS4 anymore, because it makes me angry.

What’s your favorite Sims death?

Of all the games? In TS1 when my sim had been turned into a frog and was eaten by a dragon. That was pretty memorable. In TS2 it's a hard pick between beeing scared to death, because the sim peeped into a coffin or when they use the business perk and choke to death. (Just looked it up. I meant Rally Forth.)

Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

It depends. Maxis Match is better for a modern setting. Alpha CC better suits my medieval game.

Do you cheat your sims weight?

Just in the beginning. I use a randomizer to determine their weight and manipulate it ingame with simblender. What happens afterwards just happens.

Do you move objects?

Very often. Though sometimes it's easier to turn it off. (e.g. when placing windows and doors.)

Favorite Mod?

This is hard. Would you say, that lazy duchess rcp launcher is a mod? It kinda is, right? So that. And if that doesn't count... ACR. Because it is more versatile than Romantic Standards and it has been a reliable source of ingame drama for many years.

Ugh, that was so(!) long ago. It was TS1. Either Hot Date or Livin Large. Can't remember.

I had a teen girl named Madleine Hlothran in Twinhills. She was a very fortunate combination of her parents genes, though I didn't really "make" her in Bodyshop, I got lucky in CAS.

Quite often. Sometimes I sneak her into my game as an NPC. There are multiple versions depending on the CC I'm playing with. Sometimes it's fun to see my sims interact with her.

Which is your favorite EA hair color?

Honestly in TS2 I like the "custom" haircolors very much. I don't give them often to my sims.

My favourite hair is the pink version of this hairstyle.

Favorite life stage?

I like teens. I like their drama, their interactions and the voices.

Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

I really like gameplay, but I have phases, when all I want to do is build. I want my lots to be perfect though. So all lots are in a constant wip-stage.

More or less. I make smaller edits in simpe for myself quite often, but sometimes I share stuff. Mainly Bodyshop CC and occasionally a neighborhood map.

Do you have any Simblr friends or a Sim Squad?

No. I had many pleasant exchanges with the community though. Everybody has been very nice (so far)... 😚

No, but I often thought about starting a channel. I made a lot of machinima, when I was younger, but alas not anymore. But speed builds? Tutorial-esque videos? I would probably only upload once a month, but.... 🤷‍♀️

How has your “Sims style” changed throughout your years of playing?

Can you imagine, that I played a really, really, really long time without any CC? I think, I had my first CC, when freetime came out. My english was worse back then, so half the time I did not know, what I was doing or how to install stuff properly. By chance I stumbled over Windlebridge, a massive CC intense hood (wayback machine link, it'll take sometime to load). I wanted to have that. And that was when I started to really get into modding TS2 (and learning english) From that time on, I flipped inbetween historical and modern gameplay. I still think both styles can be great fun. My current CC folder for medieval game is very puristic (only 7 gigs), but I am aiming for a fantasy game next. That is something new and sounds very exciting.

This is hard. I want to say @midgethetree. Such a generous and patient person and so many great mods. Just gorgeous.

Tiktok is destroying Media Literacy

I am constantly amazed at how much tiktoks are destroying the art of film. This isn't meant to be whiny, but like... I spent 4 years in film school studying the craft. We've had 100 years of experimenting to find effective story telling methods. From the earliest days of silent Russian cinema to the minimalist French Dogme and everything inbetween. Every film has been made with one goal in mind - how do I convey this compelling story in a visual way?

And tiktok is just - destroying it. Literally setting us back because these influencers can't be bothered* to learn how to edit.

(*note - I am aware that in order to be competitive on the internet you have to churn out so much material in such a fast paced inhuman speed that not all of the artistic integrity can be blamed on laziness)

But anyway, here are some things I've noticed --

not using subtitles or cuts to show passage of time, but rather the actor just flatly says "5 minutes go by" or "they give me a death glare."

Baby, it's called SHOW, DONT TELL. It takes all of 5 seconds to make a cue card or get an insert shot. Everyone makes fun of the student film that starts with an alarm clock beeping but ya know what's worse? Hearing your depressed voice say "She hands me her credit card"

2. The censorship of language to avoid the algorithm

Hear me out on this one -- I know that censorship is no joke. Guess what? In old Hollywood they had something called the Hayes Code, which was basically a bunch of Catholics running the ethics committee and saying that you couldn't show or say anything immoral on screen.

AND YET. Clever directors and writers found ways around it. These films OOZE with sexuality, depression, suicide, LGBT, racial relations, etc. And they didn't have to say "He un-alived himself".

And these directors WERE RADICAL. Look at any of Billy Wilder's films. Otto Preminger. They weren't shying away from big topics - they spoke about suicide, gay relationships, corruption of power, the news aiding and abetting politicians.

My point is that I see that these tiktokers are creative people. They're smart. I wish they would use their talent for more substantial means. In two years no one is going to remember a 2 minute tiktok about a customer service rep.

But they might remember a powerful film. A novel. A song. A stand up comedy routine.

Thanks for joining me on this ride through 2022! When I started my reading spree in autumn 2021 I did not expect to find so much joy (and sometimes frustation) to motivate me to write hundreds of words about books every month. I read and write what I want and because I want to, but it's nice to know that sometimes there’s actually someone interested in what I have to say. So thank you for even the small interactions. :)

I had to edit this overview like five times because whenever I thought I was done I found another book I missed. So if I counted correctly I have read a total of 93 books (written and audio, not including manga, comics and non-fiction). That is ... a damn lot! Like 6 years combined compared to before. I also reread two of those books and while editing my novel I read it two whole times. That counts, right? (That’s why there’s 94 covers up there. Because i snuck it inbetween. Because I can. uAu) Only 14 of all these books I would categorise as non-queer. Funnily enough, 6 of those I didn’t like very much. Of the remaining 75 queer books I only found 1 book really bad and I’m picky about 2 more. Huh.

This is probably a really dumb question but what do soldiers do outside of missions and training work-wise?

Hiya anon! That's not a dumb question at all. I did answer it a while back but I'm honestly too lazy to search for the post :,D

First of all, it depends on wether you go home after your shift ends or stay on base. I feel like the former is pretty self explanatory; we are, after all, normal people outside of the uniform.

As for the latter - here in Germany we have this really nice word called Dummfick, pretty much fuck all in English. We go grocery shopping, watch films, play games and just hang out with each other in general. On base personell often do drugs and throw the single handedly most hangover inducing parties I've ever been to.

There's also a lot of relationship drama that goes down somewhere inbetween. I like to stay out of that one tho. Oh, and we also do sports / fitness and call / text our families.

Edit: We don't do "missions" like you see in games. We go on deployment sometimes, but most of the time we stay on base and work, do sports, training, and our own stuff.

haha not a dumb question at all my dear

tbh when i write a first draft, i write it w the intention of being closest as possible to final draft quality, and then if i’m too lazy to write certain scenes inbetween i’ll just write [add blah blah scene here] n then that’s usually what i’ll go back n fill in while editing, n also i’ll just add some other stuffs here n there. but in reality, i don’t actually change much from first write-through to final draft in the editing process

imma be totally honest w you? the REAL thing that goes on while i’m editing and the reason why it takes me so long is bc i constantly second guess my ideas and writing and have to resist the urge to start all over again rather than just move forward w what i have 😃😅 and it’s sort of mentally draining so i only tackle like a few pages a day or for an hour a day or something (for reference kickoff ch10 is i think 52 single spaced pages rn so it’s hefty)

i’m waiting for this to get easier as i continue to write more but uhhh its hard to undo years of anxiety n imposter syndrome n perfectionism

that’s why i thought giving myself a deadline would help just to POST n get it out there, bc i’m sure it’s all in my head, but evidently that didn’t really help at all lol

ANYWAYS yea omg this all sounds depressing i sound miserable but i’m fine 💀 it’s not that bad but yea that’s usually what editing entails for me

Alright so, hc/scenario time: Sap laughter is either very very loud or v v quiet depending on the kind of tickles. Theres almost no inbetween. &while he does enjoy soft tckls more, he absolutely will try to provoke his ler into giving him hard tckls. For 1 reason & 1 reason only. Teasing destroys him. He will pass away. But if he laughs loud enough, he cant hear the horrendous teases that make everything 100x worse. 1/5

So, if Dream is tickling him he typically succeds in provoking him (who wouldn't lmao). Good for S, bc D is a god at teasing his close friends (id imagine he collects embarassing info like gold, so he always has the perfect material for each person). Doesnt matter most of the time tho, bc S will be laughing to hard to hear it (still kind of an L for him bc it tickles more but at least no teasing to go alongside yk)

BUT since George moved in, S has been having trouble with his usual strategy. G Will be entering the room D&S are in if S is being tickled within a minute two thirds of the time. Its like hes a shark who can smell theres sth going on. Neways, on rare occasions he can be bothered to join, espc if S has been annoying him. But even if hes to lazy to join, he will still ruin S's day. How, you may ask? ...

Simple, by telling D&S to quiet down bc hes sleeping/streaming/editing/... . And D the giant simp I MEAN good friend that he is will ofc comply. Meaning the tickles get soft meaning S wont laugh as loud MEANING he will be hearing Ds teases loud & Clear. This is S's worst case scenario. Hes already dying if he even sees G stand in the doorway bc he knows itll get worse in a few secs lol.

(Ofc, G himself is also a master at teases, but S's strategy simply does Not work on George to begin with. G is Aware of Ss weakness and will not let it slide under any circumstance. Basically, George being in any way, shape or form near S while hes getting tickled means certain death for him lmao)
